Preface to Xixing Ancient Town, the Grand Canal of China (consisting of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, the Sui-Tangshan Grand Canal and the Zhedong Grand Canal) is located in the central-eastern part of China, which witnesses the formation and development of the water transportation, and is a masterpiece of large-scale water conservancy engineering in the history of mankind, and is the world’s longest-used canal with the largest spatial span. There are many wharves on both sides of the canal in Xixing, many of which are adjacent to the crossing wharves, which are responsible for loading and unloading of goods between the Qiantang River and the East Zhejiang Canal. Among them, the wharf next to the ruins of the Great City God Temple was the largest wharf in Xixing in the past, which is now well preserved.
Xixing Ancient Town is located near Xixing Metro in Binjiang District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Xixing Ancient Town has a history of more than 2,000 years, and Xixing Old Street is one of the historically protected neighborhoods in Hangzhou. Attractions in Xixing Ancient Town Scenic Spot include Xixing Cross Pond Row Wharf, Xixing Cross Pond Row Wharf Thematic Exhibition Hall, Tieling Pass Ruins, House Bridge, and Xixing Stage.
1. Route introduction:
From Hangzhou Station (Railway Station) to Xixing Ancient Town, take subway line 1, walk about 1000 meters, the whole time is about 30 minutes; from Hangzhou East Railway Station (High-speed Railway Station) to Xixing Ancient Town, take subway line 1, walk about 1000 meters, the whole time is about 50 minutes.

History of Xixing Ancient Town:
Spring and Autumn Period, King Goujian of Yue built a city in this military, named “solid Ling” (existing a solid Ling Road); Tang Dynasty, because it is located in the west of the County of Huiqi, renamed “Xiling”; after the Liang period, feel that the word ‘Ling’ is unlucky, the word “Ling” is not auspicious. Ling“ is not auspicious, it was renamed ”Xixing”; later after the founding of New China gradually became the Xixing Street of Binjiang District, Hangzhou (Xixing Street is located in the south of the Qianjiang River Third Bridge (Xixing Bridge), is the eastern gate of Hangzhou Binjiang District).
As Xixing is located on the south bank of the Qiantang River, it is the starting point of the Zhedong Canal, and the Xixing Crossing Pond Row Wharf is an important part of the Grand Canal, a World Heritage Site. As a transit terminal for water transportation, Xixing flourished with a bustling cityscape and a large number of merchants.
Xixing Ancient Town Attractions
House Bridge: formerly known as the Board Bridge, it was rebuilt during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty (and is still in use today) and is located in the west of Xixing Ancient Town. It is a single-arched stone bridge, with the words “house bridge” carved on the top of the arch, 8.8 meters long and 3 meters wide, with stone parapets on both sides, the overall preservation is basically complete, and it is listed as a Hangzhou municipal cultural relics protection site.
Xixing Post: during the Spring and Autumn Period, it was called Guling Post, and during the Tang Dynasty, it was changed to Zhuang Ting, an ancient post station used to deliver official documents and letters, and a place for official personnel to stay and rest.
Xixing Crossing Dock Thematic Exhibition Hall: with the theme of Zhedong Canal Culture, it introduces the history of Xixing, related historical figures, family customs and family training, as well as the display of various collections of old objects.
